Question:  What do you get when you put together good friends, good music, a canoe filled with beer in a backyard worthy of a Before & After feature in a magazine, and let’s not forget, two people who are crazy about each other? Answer: Kimberly & Thomas’ wedding.

I was truly honored to coordinate their wedding day on May 12, 2012. Kimberly and her mother had started the planning process long before I got involved. They transformed Kimberly’s parents’ backyard into a perfectly charming wedding venue through landscaping, crafting, and good old fashioned displays of southern hospitality.

Of course after a year of planning, Kimberly wanted everything to run smoothly. I met with them about a month prior to the big day. That’s when I was introduced to the “Wedding Room!” This room would have made Anthropologie’s stock room envious. Silver serving pieces and tea sets. Antique candelabras. Floral paper pennants and rossettes. Vintage linens and lace. The perfect shade of robin’s egg blue napkins wrapped in burlap. And the prettiness goes on and on…from floor to ceiling…*happy sigh*

I was inspired to say the least. There wasn’t much I could add, but I did suggest a way to cleverly display their engagement photos. Sara Combs of Dawning Bride is a wonderful collector of interesting things through her life’s adventures, and therefore, my go to girl whenever I need unique finds and props.

I arrived at the house the morning of the wedding with my fingers and toes crossed that the heavy clouds would either do their damage early or hold off the rain all together. Yes, there was a plan B and C BUT c’mon! We did get some sprinkles and I reminded them in my best wedding planner voice, “Rain on your wedding day is good luck!” I hope I was convincing. The good news is that the rain stopped just in time for us to set up the space – paper products and all!

As lovely as the setting was, this wedding was made complete by the wonderful cast of characters that served as their bridal party, family, friends, and band mates. That’s right, band mates. The DJ took a break while Thomas rocked the bass guitar with some of his best friends. And they were awesome! Kimberly was front and center jumping up and down throwing up her rock hands.

There was so much joy at this wedding. I had a blast! To Kimberly and Thomas – may the rain always bring you luck, may you always be best friends, may Batman always answer your call for help, and may you never forget how to rock! Cheers!

Kimberly, being the detail-oreinted and thoughtful bride that she was, shared reviews on her blog  of all the professionals who helped with their wedding. Here’s mine :)

My Review Scale 1-5

1=Poor, 2=Below Average, 3=Average, 4=Above Average, 5=Outstanding

Day of Coordinator (EventChic, LLC) – 5=Outstanding

I highly recommend getting a day of coordinator, especially if you do not have a wedding planner. My mother and I planned the entire wedding over the past year and I really wanted the day of to not be stressful. We really needed someone to take what you had envisioned and planned and make that a reality the day of and that is exactly what Amy did. She really went above and beyond my expectations. She helped with the rehearsal the night before which made the day of flow smoothly. The day of she jumped in and helped with decorating and ensuring that all the special ideas we had were brought to life. It was really amazing how fast that morning flew by and coming out and seeing everything that had been done really just put a huge smile on my face that stayed the entire night. She kept us all on schedule, I had worked with her on developing a timeline and it was really helpful. The biggest “stressor” for me was that we had the wedding in my parent’s back yard and I did not want for there to be any awkwardness for our guests. Amy did a great job of keeping all the events flowing. She coordinated well with all of the vendors. While we only used her for a day of coordinator she also does wedding planning and I would highly recommend her as a planner. She has some really amazing ideas and can really make what you are thinking become a reality! I am very grateful that she was there and would definitely use her in the future for other special events!
